flashing cursor at the top left hand side of the screen??

My system has been working for a few months, but when I switch it on it go's through initalisation detecting ram drives ect, then I just get a flashing cursor at the top left hand side of the screen, and that all. If I try to reinstall windows it says checking system hardware and just freezes. This is my daughters computer not the one shown. Any help would be appriciated.

Possibly a hard drive gone faulty.
If you can get into the system BIOS is it showing your drives as connected.?

You used to pay a fortune for a pc that had a flashing cursor years ago some even had a c:> as well.

More info if you boot from the windows cd does it see the hard drive ok and does it detect the old windows? If you choose repair consul can you do a dir c:\ *.* and get a list of files?

in the recover consul try typing

fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0
fixboot c:
bootcfg /rebuild

Reboot and see what happens

Have you add removed any hardware?
