Wireless hotspots and Email

I have a wireless card for my laptop and have only used it a few times with hotspots. Internet access is no problem and picking up my email via POP3. How can I configure Outlook to send via the hotspot connection without knowing the SMTP server settings?

Unfortunalty, you can't.

Most SMTP servers are setup, so that you can only use them when connected via a connection provided by the SMTP server owner.

Some also supply authenticated SMTP, which, unfortunatly, PlusNet do not (yet).

The only other method, is to use a webmail.

How very dull! I'm sure I read in some computer magazine about making your computer a proxy server in order to send email what ever connection you were on. Not sure how complicated that is?

That’s called an open relay, and is considered as socially unacceptable, as it would be used by spammers.

Yes you could set up a secure relay, all I can say is good luck with sendmail, you will need it.
