Windows & FTP

i'm having trouble connecting to any FTP site (for uploading or downloading). I've had this problem a while but I've always assumed that it was my router's firewall.

I recently bought a new wireless router and the other computers connecting through it can use FTP with no hassle. My main PC however seems to get a message (in SmartFTP "the server actively refused your request").

I'm guessing this is a windows problem but can't work out what, any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a software firewall running. If so, try without it.

Also try a passive or active connection (i.e. different to what you currently use).

Also have you tried a different FTP client?
