Windows Crashes at start-up

I run win 98 SE, an AMD k7 processor, 128mb ram.

I wonder whether Norton Internet Security clashes with Panicware Pop-up Stopper Pro? If I restart my pc it freezes just before it fully loads windows around the time that Pop-up Stopper loads. I have disable P/U stopper from the start-up menu but daren't reboot, as it's taken 4 hours of troubleshooting before, luckily it worked. If I have further problems I can access this site at work! Whenever you have driver problems or lockup problems restart in safe mode where you can remove, disable etc any startup apps. Just after power up or reset and immediately you hear a beep press F8 which shoul dgive you a startup menu. Just select safe mode.

To stop particular apps loading use msconfig or spybot search and destroy.

Have you updated IE to version 6?

Version 6 doesn't seem to sit well with W98/98se for some reason
and can cause apparently unrelated problems. Best to limit W98 to
IE5.5sp2 at most (though with the cumulative patch applied).

If you have got 6 already in, then use IE Eradicator to hack it out :

and then install 5.5sp2 from scratch.

Thanks for your help guys. When my new pc arrives I shall format the drive on the old one then reload software. Good point about win 98 & IE6!
