W2K Sound problem

When I play an audio CD in W2K, the sound is playing at far too high a pitch - like someone on helium. The other sound functions seem to be working okay. I've tried adjusting sample rates, etc. but no luck.
My machine has onboard AC97 sound chip. Any suggestions much appreciated.

W2K Sound problem

Many AC97 audio devices some with software that allows to to play with some advanced functions, including virtual surround sound and even voice effects.

Try lookinf for a icon in Control Panel or in the system tay, possivly even the Start Menu for adjusting sound properties.

There may be a effects settings that needs adjusting.

W2K Sound problem

Or reinstall the sound drivers or mobo chipset drivers and see if that helps as your registry may have become corrupted.

W2k Sound problem

I managed to sort out this problem. The machine in question is a Compaq Pressario desktop - Compaq is now owned by HP, I believe. These machines have Compaq's own version of the AC97 sound chip and you have to download the specific driver from the Compaq website; other AC97 drivers do not work properly.
Hope this is of use to others with the same problem.
