VOIP

Can anyone recommend a resource for finding out more about VOIP - especially how to use PlusNet broadband connection to get free phone calls?

You can use PN's own Plustalk package for SIP to SIP (IE VOIP) calls and in the summer that will be extended to include PSTN termination...

Other than that there are a large number of different suppliers:-
http://www.voipuser.org -> VOIP User - A community VOIP service which provides outgoing calls to PSTN's paid for by incomming calls.
http://www.sipgate.co.uk -> Sip gate - a reasonably priced provider for PSTN terminating calls (Ie from voip to normal telephone) with free geo/non-geographical numbers.
http://www.babble.net -> Babble - another provider with some very cheep calls to international destinations for a monthly fee.

What alot of people are doing is picking one service for incomming calls and another to make outgoing calls on. All the above providers will provide detailed instructions on how to set your pc up etc and some sell VOIP hardware.[/url]

Don't forget than PN's peering arrangements are not complete yet therefore you can only use PN's service to call other customers for the time being. However DT said in his original post that the rest of the service will be rolled out over the summer. So I would wait and see what PN's offering is as their CS staff are usually on the ball if you have any problems.

Better still is SKYPE, far more reliable than plunets offering and dead easy to set up.
