UDMA HD Cable Help

Hi,

I hope someone can help me.
I have a UDMA 100 HD and I want to buy a ribbon cable for it.
Is the ATA 133 cable backwards compatable with the 100/66 etc?
I know the UDMA 100 one is with the likes of CDROMS etc, I just thought I might as well buy a cable that is "future proof" if possible Smiley

Cheers,
Tim.

Yes.

Just like Cat5 network cable, can be used for Cat3 telephony.

The cable is just the quality, materials and the way they are structured.

ATA133 IDE cable is no different from the ATA 100 cable.
If sold as ATA133 then it's a rip off.
I use so called ATA 100 cables with ATA 133 drives,no difference, they work the same.

Yes, they do work the same.

However, just as with DSL, signal to noise rations cause errors.

The 133 cables are designed out of material and structured in a certain way, that there is more signal to noise, and that they don't pickup other RF bleed.

It is the same with networks. You won't get 1GB of data down a Cat5 cable, running over a decient length. Cat5e you may get away with, but for maximum throughput, with minimum frame errors, you use Cat6.
