Strange Ping

wonder if anyone can point me in the right direction? i have a netgear 834GT router and my clean install of windows XP pings a gaming server 213.253.57.38 at 48ms, but if i ping from the router i get 32ms. is the difference a overhead from windows or is there something else i should be looking at? or maybe tweaking?
I always used to ping around 32 but recently this has increased no matter what time of day it is.

Strange Ping

What do you get if you just ping your router from the PC? if this is 10ms then thats the answer.
If not then I'm puzzled like you are. :?

Strange Ping

It could be worth begging. stealing or borrowing a different type of router just to see if that makes any difference?

It looks like there is some sort of latency possibly caused by the signal being processed by the router. :?

Strange Ping

I have just plugged in a spare DG814 router and get the same results LMAO. Think im just gonna accept 'thats the way it is' its not a problem, 16ms difference, it is just really bugging me why the two pings are different, when they should be the same.

BTW nice website, I live in Bury and will keep an eye out for exhibitions

Strange Ping

Just out of curiosity I thought I'd try the same test with my router and got the following results.

Using Dlink 504 a ping to 212.58.224.121 (BBC site) I get 10ms
From Windows Xp PC via the router I get 16ms

So it looks as though the router PC combination is adding 6ms to the total

Strange Ping

Weird isnt it? you'd think the ping would be PC to Router + Router to server.
