SpeedTouch 585 v6 DHCP help needed

I'm fiddling about with my SpeedTouch 585v6 in an attempt to solve the following problem:

I have two computers on my home LAN and neither can see the other. The router comes with an IP address of 192.168.1.254 and a DHCP pool range of 192.168.1.64 - 192.168.1.253.

Typically the IPs given out to my computers are 192.168.1.64 and 192.168.1.65 as you would expect. The routing table from one computer is shown below and looks ok to me:

I cannot ping either machine from the other. If I try to tracert from one to the other it doesn't even get as far as the default gateway:

Tracing route to 192.168.1.64 over a maximum of 30 hops

1 * * * Request timed out.

I have eliminated the possibility of it being software firewalls.

So I decided to try giving the router a new IP address: 192.168.106.1 and adding a new DHCP pool: 192.168.106.64 - 192.168.106.254.

However, I cannot get the SpeedTouch to give out addresses in the 192.168.106.x range.

Can anyone help as to why I either can't see other computers using the default 192.168.1.x subnet or tell me what I have to do to make the SpeedTouch give out addresses from the pool I've just added. I've tried RTFM but it is no use at all.

Have u tried running ipconfig on both machines to see what addess has been assigned to them

Yes I have and it's always giving out addresses in the 192.168.1.x range. Rebooting the pc or doing ipconfig /release followed by ipconfig /renew has no effect.

Thanks for the link, but it's not really geared to where I'm coming from.

I used to use a Linksys WAG54G. Without any intervention required on my part both machines on my network could quite happily see each other and transfer files between one another using simply the IP address.

I ditched the Linksys because it was dire on DSLMax. Yet now I seem to have a home "network" where the machines cannot network.
