Some Program Windows not Full Size

My computer is working almost perfectly except I have one or two programs eg one is a chat program which on opening produces a small windfow with various options that can be clicked on.

The problem is that the window is not complete, part of it is missing thus rendering it unusable. This also happens with a security program that I have.

I have tried re-installing the programs but to no avail. anyone have any ideas please as to what I can do. The program makers are not helpful

Assuming XP, try this:

Start, Run, 'sfc /scannow', OK. Note the space. This will check for damaged files.

Thanks Grahamdeepwell.
I am trying what you suggested now but while I am doing it let me ask you. How did you know that?
I have a huge book about windows xp and cannot find that in there. Also I have been in contact with a writer in a PC magazine asking him where I can find all the things that can be typed into "RUN" or in the "Command Line" but I am not getting anywhere. So I repeat the question where do you find out these things?

Peter, one place to look is on your own PC!

Start, Run, copy and paste this

%windir%\hh.exe ms-its:C:\WINDOWS\Help\ntcmds.chm::/ntcmds.htm

Press OK.

For Command, type 'help' at the prompt.
