Router connection problem

More often than not, when I boot my PC the Voyager 205 router ethernet connection is not made.

I need to press the button switch on the back to reboot the router to make the connection. This always works.

I suspect that Windows XP may not be detecting the router during the boot process.

Please could I get some advice from our resident experts.

Thanks

Mike

Check out this guide to your router.
It tells you how to set everything up properly and has a troubleshooting guide.

Router connection problem

You are getting the ip from the routers dhcp server and its timing out. You can wait till its booted and then open a cmd window and type ipconfig /renew to get an ip save rebooting the router.

Or the best way is to get it working and then open a cmd window and type ipconfig /all which will give you the ip detail fro the pc. Set the pc to have a static ip and enter the detail from the ipconfig /all that way it wont need the routers dhcp so it wont time out

As above

Also make sure the subnet mask is the same

example setup (numbers dont have to be exactly the same)

set the routers local settings to be:

ip:192.168.0.1
sn:255.255.255.0

then go into network card properties, TCP/IP and set it manually to be

ip: 192.168.0.10 (give the router a little leeway)
sn:255.255.255.0 (matches the router)
gateway:192.168.0.1 (or whatever the ip address of the router)

as for DNS put either the routers ip or look in the help file for plusnets DNS servers and put those details in

That usually will connect you, no need to mess with DHCP then

Also have you been messing with XP's services?
