Problems with disconnections

Hi
I have adsl connexant internal pci modem on win xp. Used to be perfect on M.E.
When browsing on xp connection is pretty stable(not 100%), play a game i.e
ut2004, randomly looses adsl connection. If I exit game, adsl signal starts again.
Very annoying! Have tried practically everything to solve problem inc remove soundcard- no joy. Any ideas?..router? microfilter? drivers?magic spells?

Please help
Thanks, Danglese

From the sound of things I suspect a power / CPU issue here as graphics intensive games require more effort from the CPU hence more power needed.

Can you possibly borrow a router from a friend for a test, as I think that will very likely cure your problem.

Problems with disconnections

Hi.
Well, does that mean a flaw in the design of all internal pci adsl modems?
I have a ge- force 6800 graphics card- no O.C . I'll turn down the textures and resolution and see if that makes a difference.
Thanks for reply

ps have been thinking of a router, but don't know anybody to borrow one.

No not a flaw in the design of the modems but I assume that its the same PC that had ME and is now running XP.
XP itself is that bit more resource hungry and coupled with making the cpu work that bit harder now under games may be enough to tip things over the edge.
You havn't given any detail of your PC spec.
CPU. Motherbourd ,Memory, Power supply etc.
This is why I suggested trying to borrow a router if you could.

Problems with disconnections

My pc specs are asus a7n8x-x mb,2.8 xp,512mb memory,audigy 2,fx 6800 gfx
win xp sp2, internal adsl pci modem. All temps are nice, scanned frequently with ad aware etc...a stable and slick system.
As I've said, tried everything and my fear is if I buy this router, the problem might still be there, or that I'll be creating more
By the way, What microfilters do you recomend as adsl nation(?) seem to think
highly of their own.

Thanks for reply

PC sounds a good spec but one very important item you haven't quoted is the wattage of the Power Supply?

As to filters the Exelsus z Blocker Model Z-420 are the ones that I use and I have seen others on these forums recomending them as well.

Problems with disconnections

Yeh, sorry, it's 300 watts. By the way, I still get some random loss of sync even
while browsing but admittedly this is rare.
Again thanks for reply.

300 watts is insufficient to be reliable for the speed of your CPU. Cry
You need a PSU of at least 400 watts to give you reliability.
Im surprised that you have not been having constant problems with it. :?

More importantly for your system you need a +12V rail in your PSU capable of at least 20 Amps.

Look at the label on the side of the PSU and post your +3.3, +5 and +12 ratings.

How important is the earth cable from the master socket to other sockets in my house because it seems to be not connected. i.e. 2 wires in, 2 wires out.
(Ithink it's earth)
Thanks for help Danglese

10 Amps on your PSU's 12V rail is woefully inadequate. I'm surprised your system even boots :!:

You need a new psu. Make sure you get one with an absolute minimum of 18 Amps on the +12V.

If you can afford it Antec, Tagan or Enermax. At least 400W. Take a look here.

If you dont want to spend a fortune then I can suggest This one . Yes I know its very cheap but I have used this one a few times with AMD 2800 CPU's and they have always worked fine Smiley
