Over half my disk is missing

I have got a 120gb hard disk.
it has 1 primary partition holding Ubuntu.
It has another extended partition taking up the rest.
A logical partion FAT32 filesystem takes up the full extended partition.

But i cannotseem toget the system to recognise fat32 partition.

I was fit to make it see my 2 ntfs partitions, which have now been combined into the single fat32 partition which i cannot see.

I copied all the data from the ntfs partitions onto the primary partition.
I deleted everyithing but the primary partition.
I created an extended partition, used full space, then a logical partition using full space.
Then a reboot.

I just get an error saying
Quote

FAT : bogus number of reserved sectors
VFS : cant find a valid filesystem on hda5

any ideas?

The thing is that the system seemed to create the partition, but i didnt notice any evidence of it actually formatting the hard drive..

Would this have anything to do with it?

I posted a reply to that effect here last night m8, but promptly deleted it because I don't know linux and didn't want to steer you the wrong route, maybe risking your data! Shockedops:

I read something about having to mount the partitions too, but as I say I am out of my depth sry!

I can't really help but will be watching this thread with interest as I currently have a dual boot system with suse and windows, suse is installed on a 120gb disk with a linux and a windows partition, windows is installed on a seperate drive. Suse recognises the windows drive, but not the partition on the 120GB, windows however still sees this.

To format it run

mkfs.msdos -F32 /dev/hda5

Over half my disk is missing

Yeah i was in bit of a rush, or more like over eager to get it to work...

So i backed everything up onto DVD's (took ages) wiped the whole hard drive, reformated, then copied the DVD's back...

Although this info will prove invaluble as i will prolly repartition my drive again... just to be awkward - the same reason jabb0 is spelt with a zero
