Outlook Express Problem

Just lately, when I start Outlook Express, it is more likely than not, to complain that it has done something illegal, and give me the choice either to close Outlook Express or look at the details. If I close Outlook Express, and immediately try again, it always starts successfully at the second attempt.

If, instead of closing, I look at the details of the failure, I get the following:-

MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in
module MSHTMLED.DLL at 0177:70f72931.

I have re-installed Internet Explorer, which I understand is the source of Outlook Express, but the problem remains.

If anybody in Plusnetland has a cure for the above, I'd be grateful to hear about it.

Many thanks

Graham
Try googling all or part of the error message

MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in module MSHTMLED.DLL

You get quite a number of different suggestions as to what may be causing it depending on what you're doing at the time, and you may find your own circumstances in there.

If not, I suspect you're left with reloading windows, or if you can't be bothered with that you could use Thunderbird for your email till you can be.

Outlook Express Problem

MSIMN - wouldn't that be MSN / Windows Messenger?

Outlook Express Problem

Process File: msimn or msimn.exe
Process Name: Microsoft Outlook Express

Description:
msimn.exe is the executable for Microsoft Outlook Express, the default POP3 email application included with Microsoft Windows. This process should not be removed while you have Outlook Express open.

Outlook Express Problem

I no longer use windows, but when i did, the fact that msmessenger was needed to load outlook expressed really ticked me off cos i neva used it.

A solution would be to download a program called
X-Setup

A nice little programs which to a certain degree takes the hood off windows and gives you access to a few extremely useful options which MS couldnt be bothered to make an interface for.

Anyways after a bit of looking around the many options, you will find an option to stop outlook trying to load messenger.

Granted the program name of messenger is msmsgs, and not msimn - if i were a betting man i would bet this would solve your problem.

Outlook Express Problem

If MS Messenger really ticks anyone off just copy and paste this into the run box and hit enter

rundll32 setupapi,InstallHinfSection BLC.Remove 128
%SystemRoot%\INF\msmsgs.inf

gone goodbye and good riddance !

Outlook Express Problem

Thanks to all for your advice. Unfortunately that annoying niggle is still there in spite of all your suggestions. I've even tried reloading W98SE over the existing W98SE, and I've tried reloading from an image of my C drive that I thought I'd made before this problem started.

I guess I'm going to have to live with the problem or try another e-mail process (Thunderbird or Courier or something).

Regards to all.
