Moving a computer

Hi There

I need to move my computer, and am wondering about the ADSL connection as to maintaining the most reliable computer to phone socket connection. My 2 options regarding that are

1) move the router and modem to the where the computer is going to be and use an extension cable (30ft) from the modem to the wall socket.

2)leave the router and modem where they are and use a long Ethernet cable (30ft) from the computer to the router.

Just wondering which is going to give the better result regarding speed and/or line loss if any.Or is there some problem with using either type of extension cabling that I may have overlooked.

Best option is to leave modem/router where it is and use long ethernet cable - 10baseT is ok up to 100meters. If you use 'phone extension then you may suffer poorer Signal to Noise ratio and worse attenuation.

Thanks Richard

I thought I had read something to that effect in the past but could not find the information again or to which cable the 100mtrs applied to.
