Memory problem

I have 2 computers - one using as Asrock K7VT2 motherboard one using a ECS K7SOM+ motherboard.

I have just bought a 512meg PC2100R ECC memory chip and it won't work in either computer.

I have a non ECC 512 PC2100 chip which works in both.

I had thought that the ECC chip would work in most sytems - any helpful comments welcomed.

Memory problem

ECC stands for error correction and these modules are typically used in Servers due to extra data bits and there reliability unless it otherwise states in your motherboard manual these are not compatible with your boards

It may be a good idea to go through the manuals to see what memory your boards take and if the module is new see if you can change it for non ecc unregistered memory

Thanks Bill - neither manual nor the web sites mention whether ECC will or won't work - I guess I was just optimistic.

I bought from ebay so exchanging it isn't an option.

I'll have to find someone locally who can make sure it's not faulty then sell it on.
