You've answered your own question cevap.
Yes you need a router. Make sure it has enough ports,
eg 4 port and also make sure it has a modem built in,
they're sometimes labelled ADSL routers.
eg. Netgear DG834, D Link DSL504 and many more at
various price level's.

I dont think that has a modem, you'll need a seperate ethernet
modem.
If you want something cheaper then look at the Origo also
known as ASR 8400 also from ebuyer.
Look at the link ASR 8100 on the adsl and broadband forum where
it's discussed further.

That one is just a network switch. You need the 504, one with a built in DSL modem.

You can get cheaper than the Dlink 504, remember though, you get what you pay for and the lower cost models will have limited features and maybe security holes you can drive a bus through.

That only has one ethernet port so will only connect to a single PC.

I thought you wanted to connect more than one PC to the internet? in which case you needed a 4 port device not a 1 port device i.e. the ASR-8400.

To connect other PCs you now need to purchase a hub or switch.

I thought the router is connected to the PC via USB and then the LAN port going to 2nd pc?

If not why would I use USB and LAN port for 1 pc?

You can do it that way.
You may need to set it up using the LAN connection though.
However, a better route overall for future proofing and to get away from any USB problems, I would have gone for a 4 port jobby.

Hmm, further checking confirms that model allows both USB and Lan connections to be used at the same time so it's actually a 2 port router. Other models I have seen only allow USB or Lan but not both so it will be OK for connecting 2 PCs.

I just hope you don't have any problems with the USB connected PC as USB networking can be unreliable at times. The 4 lan port version would have been better in my experience.

if its the Origo then it will accept either as it auto detects and changes for them. I use both my self as I have a long cross over/patch cable from a mini network setup i got for my then PCI ADSL modem I used before.

its the same just has a slightly better brand badge so costs a tenner more. Seeing as ebuyer don't send out orders before a weekend unelss you pay for weekend delivery. Have another look at the Origo 4port router personaly I wouldn't recommend it but your learning about DSL and routers so it's a good starting point but has issues so have a look at the support forum Here
