I'm in the process of installing a home network. I'd like to have a go at running my own webserver and ftp server.

What software would you recommend? I run Windows XP on my PC's but I have an old P2 400MHz that I was thinking about putting Linux on for this experiment.

Thanks for any help in advance.

Many people will advise apache for web server. Apache is great but I do like Abyss.

X1 is the free version of X2. I havent tried the new version of X1. But the past versions were great (before the paid version came out). So im sure the new version will be just as good. It supports PHP, MySQL, Perl, ASP etc... Has a great webbased config. So you can even admin it remotely

For FTP I like GuildFTPd

Just install fedora core 4 on your P2 box which installs all you need to run your own webserver (Apache). You then need a router to port forward port 80 to the local IP address of the linux box and your up and running.

ClarkConnect is excellent but remember it's not wise to run a web-server on your firewall box.
