Has anyone tried Nod 32 ?

I have recently ditched Norton after many years. Did extensive research and eventually went tor BitDefender. Much better that Norton. Loads very quickly and virus database updated every hour (Norton is weekly)

Nod32 and F-Secure also get good reviews. See a selection below.

Has anyone tried Nod 32 ?

all last week i was trying out different AV, firewalls and anti-spyware as my panda subscription ran out a few days ago.

i found kaspersky to be good but was a bit tempermental towards firewalls espescially outpost (it is a known problem which there are patches for). Panda was good as well

i used to run xp64 and the choice of AV products is extremely limited so i went with NOD32, which i did like. It was light on resourses, was fast, and prevented a couple of viruses with the resident shield. Later AVG came out with a 64bit firewall and AV and i gave it a try (cause there were no other firewalls for xp64). AVG found a virus that NOD32 didnt, which i did not expect at all. I only had the trial of AVG so i went back to NOD32 and eventually got rid of xp64.

as i said i was trying AV etc all last week liked kaspersky but it gave too much bother will different firewalls. Got fed up of messing about and decided to give AVG internet security a go, again it found a virus that others didnt (the file had been on my computer for over a month) unless it was a false postitive. While the firewall is not the most comprehesive it still does its job.

here a review that i found different to most for NOD32

most other reviews i found look favourably upon NOD32

im going to stick with AVG, just my opinion, as i said though i did like NOD32

Good as they claim? Lies, damn lies and statistics Wink

I've been using NOD32 for about 6 months, here's the good bits....

1) It's as fast as they claim, it flies through disks on during manual scans.
2) It detects viruses! I've a few inbound in spam emails with nice payloads attached, it picks them up and deletes them as appropriate. It also detected a virus in one of my larger archives that Norton hadn't spotted (I used Norton before).
3) It just gets on with the job, silently sitting in the corner ('silent mode' = no daft 'Ive updated myself messages').
4) It detects root kits (allegedly), not something I've been able or want to test. But apparently it detects ones that are already installed also, not just 'detect it being installed' like the competition.

... and the bad bits....

1) Acronyms used in the interface leave a bit to be desired. Components are 'AMON', 'EMON', 'IMON', 'DMON' and 'NOD32'. Why an earth they can't just give them sensible names, I don't know. This could apply to most the interface, if I say 'it's a little techie' that would sum it up.
2) Erm.... nothing else?

I've been convinced by it anyway, enough to invest in a 3 year subscription (cheaper p.a.).

I've been using it for a long time.Ditched Norton for it and will never go back.

Have watched it flag and destroy a few viruses in real time when downloading nice infected emails.

All good as far as I'm concerned.
