Great free software

I recently installed the free browser (Firefox). I find it is much better that explorer. Check it out for yourself at:

http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

I am also using another free software called (SpyBot) you download and it Searches and destroys any spy stuff on your computer. You get free updates and can find it at:

http://www.safer-networking.org/en/home/index.html

Last off all is the Free addition of the ( AVG Antivirus program) it's great so if you need a good one this is it. Free updates and you can find it at:

Great free software

I thought for a second that I might find myself deleting this thread for spamming.

However, I am relieved. And you're right. All three of those are very good bits of software, possibly with the exception of AVG, I've not used it myself as I run Sophos, but others have informed me it's a bit technical to use.

Great free software

I use AVG Free Edition on my main PC and I wouldn't say it is technical especially not v7 which is even nicer than v6 since i installed it i have barely had to touch it, it updates itself each evening automatically and lets you know if the internal database is out of date.
I would also reccomend open office I use it all the time instead of M$ Office and would not consider going back i can't wait until 2.0 is finished then i can ditch access completley!

AVG Antivirus

Hi, I find that AVG is totally non technical, it does everything for you as you say. Great Program.

Free software? Hey, take a look at those Linux distributions .. especially the new Ubuntu "Hoary" 5.04. Sure, you won't be able to run/install your regular games etc.. but you'll get most of the things that you require for daily computing. Setting it up is as easy (if not easier) than Windows XP too.

I am actually planning to install linux on my main PC soon, however the computer has just gone wrong and is in for repair at the moment!

There's more where Firefox came from:
Thunderbird, email client
Gaim, instant messaging
OpenOffice.org, full office suite
The GIMP, image editing
Audacity, sound editing

I.e. they're all free (and open source and multi-platform for that matter).

i like avg. i prefer avast though. it's free for home use too. mind you, with it running in the background, it's really slow on computers using duron/semperon processors.

As well as "SpyBot - Search and Destroy" I use Ad-Aware for scanning and removing adware. They seem to work well in combination.

However I've just started using SpywareBlaster and that seems to stop most adware getting through. Since starting using it neither Spybot nor Ad-Aware pick much up at all.

Ad-Aware is available from: www.lavasoft.com
SpywareBlaster is available from: www.spywareblaster.com

Ad-aware and SpywareBlaster are (were) free for home/non-business use.

Yes, all of the above Cheesy

Google has a very sleek free photo organiser & editor, Picasa 2.
http://www.picasa.com/

It finds all the graphic files in your PC and organises them into albums with thumbnails, all neatly displayed in one window. Good editing tools too.. And also great for resizing files for email, blogs etc. - one click and all done.
