Creating FTP site using Windows 2003 Server

Hi there

I'm new to area of ftp sites ! If my question sound silly, aplogise upfront.

What I want to do is :-

Type ftp://ip address (one given to me from ISP), this will use my home network server, rather than plusnet. Is that possible ?

Steps
1.Created and Configured ftp on Windows 2003 Server
2.Configured Firewall - port 21
3.DMZ Server
4.Installed SmartFTP on client.

Using ADSL Router + Firewall - wired from Netgear DG834.

Test
1.Checked from client on network, ftp works fine.(using Domain IP Address)
2.Checked from client using ISP IP address, error message :-
Logged on as "Anonymous" user

"No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it"

What am I doing wrong ?

3.Checked using "ftp.plus.net" + member account ==> that's ok.

Any feedback most appreciated.

Thanks.

I dont think you can call your Plusnet IP address from within your own network. :?
You will have to try it from an external machine. Cool

If you want to check a website on your machine at home all you need to do is use the ip address of 127.0.0.1 in place of your domain name or static ip.
Instead of then trying to connect by routing through plusnets dns it loops back to your local machine, just what you need if you want to see how it looks without having to use a different computer.

That's assuming the FTP server is listening on localhost or 127.0.0.1.

It is better to put your actual local PCs IP address instead of 127.0.0.1 in the hosts file.

i.e.

192.168.0.2 imranea.plus.com
