SPI would have no effect on connecting out, as it only moniters incoming packets to see if they match ones that went out already. no filtering is done in -> out, only out -> in.

have you tried it from commandline? (start -> run -> cmd -> ftp -> o ftp.plus.net)

are you sure you typed the address correctly/

Connecting to FTP

Since I've installed my router I've been unable to gain access to my PlusNet webspace Sad

The router has a built-in firewall with SPI so I assume it could be something to do with that.

Using Wise-FTP I get the error....
(500 Connection refused (Winsock error #10061))

Using SmartFTP I get...
No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it.

I'm a bit lost at what to do. My router is just a cheap SafeCom one from eBuyer. Anybody got any ideas?

Connecting to FTP

Hi Mark

You dont really need a third party ftp program to access your webspace, try opening explorer and type ftp.plus.net into the address bar you should then be prompted for your username and password

if it connects from here you can drag and drop your files where you want
them

if you want to use an ftp program try looking in your router security settings
to see if its blocking ftp for some reason and within the program itself

i find filezilla to be an excellent program you could give it a try

The url shown above gives me a page not found error. Change it to ftp://ftp.plus.net and it should work ok Smiley

Yes it does the same if i try and link to it from here but from inside
explorer it connects just fine with the username and password dialogue
box popping up ?

Do you get "page not found" from within explorer John ?Huh

Funny but yes ftp.plus.net does work fine if I open a new instance of Explorer.
However when it opens the login box then the address bar shows ftp://ftp.plus.net Huh

It just tells me that it can't make a connection to the server. It's starting to become a real problem now.

Do you think it may work if I remove port 21 from my list of stealth ports?

Try ftp2.plus.net !

I seem to remember something about ftp2 in a post with someone
having problems but cant find it

John might be able to tell you more about this

Double check that your router or firewall is not blocking outgoing ftp or port 21 for some reason
see if you have port 21 stealthed for incoming as well as outgoing traffic as your problem may lay there
i have seen this happen with some firewalls being over protective also
