Computer just reboots every so often

Hi, the computer just restarts for no reason.

The system:

The system is not overclocked, the temp of the processor is only
31c all fans are on....

Abit AV8 3rd Eye, 939 AMD 3000+ processor... Leadtek A400 128MB Graphics.

XP Pro SP2

I think it might be the PSU as I got it with the case, case was only 40, its a 400W

If yes, anyone got any recommdations for a PSU, that will power my system, I don't want to spend that much on one..

These are the results of the last one

if you are running XP then instead of the BSOD your pc will just reboot, thus this may cause a problem, also check that your RAM is ok and not broken in anyway (with a memory tester)

also make sure you dont have any virii on your PC so install a decent AV scanner.

You could try http://www.memtest.org/ or http://www.memtest86.com/

BSOD = "Blue Screen of Death"

PSU is a definate possibility though, I'm running an XP3000 and with the 350w PSU that came with the case, it just kept restarting, I replaced with a Gold 550w Dual fan one and all is good, have had same prob on many systems over 2500 with low PSU's

Test your memory with one of the following utils. If it fails you may need to replace one of your memory modules.

memtest86 (precompiles win/dos version) or the enhanced version memtest86+ (choose the floppy (DOS/Win) version).

Computer just reboots every so often

Hi I ran the test, it ran for around 1hr 30 - step 1-9 three times. Does it not
stop at all because I just exited it after so long as there are no errors,
it showed passed...

The errors are just getting randomized now here are a few new ones I
got

PFN_LIST_CONRRUPT
REGISTRY_ERROR
MULITPLIE_IRP_COMPLETE (something)

So im going to get a new PSU - would this be okay

I hope you get what you pay for with that one as it sounds very pricey.

I have always gone a bit down market and used a 500 W one from Scan here

Much less expensive and have never yet failed. Wink

I can highly recomend this one Here

Casing isn't all that but it does the job well on a 2500+ clocked to 3200

alternatively look out for the superflower gold 550w with dual fans, its a little more money but well worth it.

was looking on ebuyer earlier at a black 500w PSU, ebuyer own brand
for £10 ... reviewed seemed okay ...

Worth a go...?

Would it not be worth trying a re-install before coughing up money for a new PSU? If the re-install fixes the problem you've saved yourself some cash!

I would say yea, go for it, I mean for a tenner what can you lose!

Excellent reviews and if you look, a lot of them are running P4 and amd 2.8's and 3.2's

give one of them a go and let us all know how you get on.
