Compaq 17" V700 Monitor - screen colour/res problem

Have recently installed Windows 98SE on a Compaq PC which was previously running Windows 2000. The Compaq V700 monitor only only displays 16 colours and a low 480 res (unchangeable). I am about to install a latest driver but was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Searching on the internet I have seen other such problems which have not been resolved by installing the latest driver.

Assuming the latest driver does not fix the problem has anyone else come across this and found a fix for it? It';s not my PC and I only get to ''visit it' once a week so I'm trying to cover every angle here!!

Many thanks,

Ian Fidler

This has happened to me in the past, though with a different monitor. What I usually do is just install the latest graphic card drivers, and the latest monitor drivers. This always seems to do the trick.

You definately need to update the graphics card drivers. Win98 defaults to the lowest common resolution - 16 colours at 640x480.
