Chipset Fan Failure

Hi all,

My ASUS A8N-E motherboard recently had a Northbridge chip fan failure Sad . ASUS have not been helpful at all and so I am at the point where I need to purchase a third party fan and install it myself. So my questions are:

a. Can a Northbridge chip survive without a fan?

b. If not, any ideas about suppliers/manufacturers?

Many thanks

Dave

Chipset Fan Failure

For future reference, your next mobo purchase could be one with a fanless design so there is no need for a northbridge cooler and it keeps noise level to a minimum too, such as the Asus P5B-Deluxe mobo.

Chipset Fan Failure

I think these guys are my favourite for cooling:

http://www.quietpc.com

They sell all kinds of fans as well as fanless heatsinks. The Northbridge doesn't need a fan as such but it does need some kind of cooling.

Chipset Fan Failure

Many thanks for the advice and links.

I like the idea of a 'fanless' solution as I have an Antec case which does a fantastic job of cooling, at the same time being extremely quiet.

Zalman it is then. Smiley
