Burning BitTorrent video files to VCD/DVD

Does anyone know a quick and easy way of burning .avi files, downloaded via BitTorrent, to either VCD or DVD so I can play the files on my TV? I've tried plenty of times and each time the picture if a little too dark and the sound goes out of synch with the video. The files play fine on my PC. Thanks in advance.

Presumably your DVD player is supposed to be able to play avi files then?
And presumably you're burning them in the right format, otherwise they wouldn't play at all.
What are you using to burn them with? May just be the burner making errors, unless you've converted the files first, in which case it will be the converter.

My DVD player won't take avi or divx, so I used to convert them with WinAVI which worked fine, but took a long time, and then burn as standard DVD files using Nero. This was OK, but the sound was always a bit on the low side as the default sound level for, I think it was Divx, is quite low. But now I've got an IAudio A2, I just drag them on to that and then play from there straight on to the TV no problem. Have you got a similar device you can use?

There is a program ive used for a while now, its called VSO Divx to DVD. This program will convert your AVI files into DVD video files, if you have set the program up correctly it will even burn the files straight to DVD after its converted them.

Very easy to setup and use, a 90mins video will take approximately 50-60 to convert and burn to disc, not bad eh!

The trial version can be found on torrent but really you need to unlock the software because you get a great big message saying 'TRIAL VERSION' on your completed DVD. Let me know how you get on.

You can pm me if you need help.

You have asked a question with loads of answers. First what format are the files you download in ie avi mpg rm ram mov divx?

Each one requires a differant aproach and the right codec to work. You need something like nero express which wil take all these formats and convert them into a vcd/dvd.

There is just so many file formats its a nightmare. Try to look for iso images so you dont have to bother what format its in as it burns straight to cd most P2P will have the same file in iso

The op has asked if anyone knows how to convert .avi files. Also because they are from bittorent they are more than likely avi or mpg files thats being downloaded.

Sorry for the delay in responding.

I'm trying to burn TV shows, the filename contains the following: "XviD-XOR".I have Nero 7 Premium so I have Nero Vision which I've used to encode the files and burn to a VCD or a DVD-R. Each time the sound goes out of synch and the picture is much darker than it should be. Is there any way I can burn these files so that the picture is the correct brightness and so that the sound matches the video? I don't have a laptop yet, otherwise I'd stick one in the living room and connect it to the TV!

you can't go wrong with VSO as suggested by paco2k5

im guessing by you saying 'files' that you are trying to encode a multiple of episodes using Nero Vision, which is where i had problems using this program. Realistically, to get good quality conversions you can only but max. of 2 episodes through nero vision (say, 45min eps) before the quality starts to deteriate and the sound lags. No matter how you tinker with the settings in nero vision to try and squeeze more episodes in, it doesnt make any difference. So i suggest ditching Nero Vision and using winavi, as ive personally never had any problems with it and use it on a weekly basis. Also someone else recommended VSO, which is also a good program. You should check them out Wink

well seeing as the ops think its wrong for me to rant at you...

ITS ILLEGAL! DON'T DO IT! (And if you do, don't publisise it on your own ISPs forum!)

Seeing as its against the law, PlusNet should now report you for doing it, but I guess they wont, but hey, I can! *yay* -- Now the Computer Misuse act has been updated, doing what you just said you did could earn you 10 years in jail, shame.

In other news, don't download illegal files off the net it lands you in jail - dang!

Oh, get off your soapbox, Buzzons!

Have you never recorded a "free to air" TV programme or asked a friend to do it for you because you weren't in a position to watch it or, like me for example, you live in a TV blackspot that has been made even worse by the introduction of this wonderful digital broadcasting that I can't receive yet it has caused the output of analogue transmitters I used to be able to receive to be reduced in power so that poor reception has become really rubbish!

Why shouldn't people who can't watch a "free to air" broadcast because of quirks of broadcasting that allow others to watch them perfectly legally not be able to obtain them at negligible cost and view them privately at a later date?

I take it you never use a video recorder except to record non copyright stuff or play what you've paid for, or are you a hypocrite?

You'll notice I never said whether I did or didn't-- I was just protesting the right of someone in my position to do this sort of thing even if the legality might be deemed dodgy by some

For all we know the OP might have obtained the relevent material legitimately

I actually read your original post and to be honest was mortified ! it has to be one of the most rude and insulting posts I've ever come across and taking the current situation into account I think we should be supporting not belittling each other regardless of the issue :!:
I'd have been shocked if the mods hadnt had the content removed you stoopid little man :!:

Burning BitTorrent video files to VCD/DVD

if you thought it was shocking, then you really need to get out more!

Oh and its NOT free to air here, if you go and check the net, you will find XOR release US (not UK) TV, and as it has NOT been shown here, it is in fact against the UK law to download/watch/distribute the files.

The WORST point is that he is blatantly saying he does it ON HITS ISPs Forum! when

a) a simple google search (or MSN live search or ask search or what ever search engine his home page is (porn from malware cos hes a noob?) would result in him finding

1) better forums to post on
2) the solution to his problem

see here ::

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=avi+to+dvd

http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=xvid+to+dvd

wow. that.was.hard.

Now, if he had stated it was a RiVER or REMAX or any of the other UK tv capping groups, then its not "strictly" against the law, hence why uknova or w/e the site is called hasnt been taken down. Since the introduction of VCRs its been a gray area, for UK tv, its quite certain about other countries TV, its illegal -- hence WHY Channel4 wont put up season 3 of lost/Desperate housewives yet, as no one in this country has the copyright to distribute it yet...ergo,its illegal, and I personally find it shocking that the OP hasnt been a) reported for this b) hasnt had his account banned c) hasnt had the post deleted.

How can an ISP condone illegal file sharing on its OWN forums!?!?!

oh and no, I dont care what state the ISP is in, as I don't even use plusnet as my ISP anymore, i moved, to a FAR nicer one a long long time ago. So I can now sit back, and laugh as what was once a good isp turns to an ISP full of noobs who dont even know how to google.

so to the OP:
