Bootable CD

I need to upgrade the firmware for my NEC DVD RW drive.

All attempts to use the supplied Windows Upgrade program even in Safe Mode causes the PC to crash so I have been advised by NEC to use the DOS program.

Unfortunately my system does not have a flopyy drive and no instructions have been given on how to do this from a CD.

Can anyone offer a solution, please.

Cheers

Bootable CD

What version of Windows are you using?

Try booting off the windows install CD and get to the recovery console (don't do a repair install). From there you should be able to run any DOS based firmware apps on the hard disk.

Have you tried running the upgrade from a DOS box?

Hi

Thanks for the reply.

I should have said I am running XP Home.

I'll try your suggestions and get back.

Cheers.

Many recent motherboards can boot from a USB memory stick, if you have one.
