Any experience with iRiver H340

I've been looking at buying an iRiver H340 and wondered if anybody has any experience of them. Any thoughts?

A friend of mine (also a plusnet user) does as he has one himself. I have alerted him of your post so hopefully he'll reply in due course.

No problem. He actually has the H-140 methinks. The non-colour version.

Comments I have picked up on are that it takes quite a while to start up when using the "database mode" or whatever they call it. Instant startup whilst using 'file manager' type browsing.

It is also, in my opinion, quite a bit thicker than the ipod. Especially with the provided leather case. I prefer the ipod 'skins'.

The remote is quite handy, though, with an LCD screen. Something the ipod doesn't feature.

Not sure what the price difference is between this and the new colour ipod.

I'm sure Chris, the friend, will be able to shed some light on build quality, ease of use, etc... general iriver stuff!!

Hope this helps though!

Yehhh - well I'm looking at killing about 5 birds with one stone.

External HD - USB host to pull pics off my Camera - Voice recording - Doc/txt reader - mp3/ogg/wma etc player.

Just a bit concerned that it might be a jack-of -all-trades ....

Certainly the fact it has a built in voice recorder is very handy, though you can get add-ons for other mp3 players. ipod has a txt reader, dunno about others. Only thing ipod doesnt play is .wma's which is a bit irritating but it converts them as it uploads.

iPod does deal with WMA, however, not those from payed download sources.

IE, it only re-encodes non protected media.

However, things like Napster / iTunes etc... allow you to download to the ipod.
