Hi.

Can anyone access the web site www.acm.org ?
it is the Association of Computing Machinery - and I have friends who can access it with no problems?

I wonder is it something specific to plusnet?

I did a tracert (below) and it seems to get only so far then timeout?

Thanks,

Roger

Just got the site, no problems at all.

Bear in mind, that time outs might indicate a firewall

Actually the last hop is being blocked deliberately. It is blocking pings. So all would appear fine.

I'm not sure what the procedure is here. It is the only site I appear to have a problem getting to. I'll go look at the firewall thing in my netgear router - but I did not tinker with anything there at all. The web-site worked a week ago.

Thanks.

Hi,

Looking up www.acmorg

[dtomlinson@csctools dtomlinson]$ host www.acm.org
www.acm.org has address 199.222.69.251
www.acm.org has address 199.222.69.250

I get two results back. Maybe just one of the servers is down as both one tracert above goes to one IP and the second to the other.

I cannot get on to the site, i believe i know why though, i believe for some reason, servers that have ICMP turned off have problems with plus.net accounts.. strange i know. Since i joined plus.net i could no longer view my websites, but i could on other ISP's and university connection. Through some investigation and annoyance, i asked the server admin "long shot.. but do you have ICMP off?" he replies "Yes, ill turn it on"

BOOM!

I can see my site and recieve my emails...

ICMP = Ping by the way.
