I signed on to PlusNet about 18 months ago at £24.99 per month (which included a free modem). I see that the advert says 8Mb BB from £14.99 per month. Is it possible to change to a cheaper package or do I need to change to another ISP (I see that Sky are now offering free BB to their customers)?Huh

SKY only offer their service through certain exchanges.

If you aint on one of the selected you wont recieve it

But , you are right they do offer free broadband if you are a full sky package subscriber.

you need to find out if you are in a sky enabled area ..

I ain't either
But they do offer a monthly package at £17.99 which would save me £8 per month unless there is some way of getting a cheaper package from PlusNet. I've been quite happy with my PN connection, but I think £24.99 is no longer competitive.

You certainly can 'regrade' to a different PN package. However, if the monthly cost of the new one is less they will levy a 'regrade charge' of (I think) £14.99.

Check out the product matrix. BB PAYG offers pretty much the same as Premier. If your usage is modest it may be cheaper. (Depending on 'modest' of course)

How much is your total usage per month? How much of your usage could be scheduled for overnight?

I do quite a lot of emails and I probably spend about an hour a day browsing the internet. I spend some time uploading stuff to my website but that is very limited.
I download the occasional software but that is only things like updates to my Norton Internet Security and Adobe reader programmes. I do listen to the radio on the Internet a bit and my daughter likes watching videos on you-tubes (perhaps half an hour per day on average.) Come to think of it she spends quite a bit of time on MSN messenger and similar programmes.

Your usage would fit BB+ at £14.99, but as I am sure you will realise from all the posts in here, performance on BB+ isn't always that great!

I would suggest you consider PAYG which with 4GB per month included is £16.49 or with 6GB is £17.99. Midnight to 8am usage is totally free. If you go over your included allowance you pay £1.80 for each 2GB extra (or part thereof) used. PAYG is given higher priority than BB+ or Premier.

I wonder if you could avoid the regrade fee for a move to BB PAYG if you commit to enough additional bandwidth in teh first month to match you current subscription.

I don't know as I've not done it.....(and not read the rules so closely) but its worth asking if thats the way you want to go.

Thanks for the replies.
Three questions:
how much is the regrade fee to PAYG?
How long do you have to commit for?
Do I have to change hardware/software at my end?

This page should answer most questions.

The trick agora suggested of initially opting for sufficient included GB to make the price just above your current fees used to work - I haven't seen any posts recently about it. But you are only talking about saving £14.99 so you may think it's not worth the bother.
