what to ping/tracert

My connection is very 'laggy'. Slow pages and occasional timeouts on web sites, no particular site just in general.

Speedtest give consistent fast speeds, so I imagine the issue is in latency.

tracert to www.plus.net gives as follows:

C:\Documents and Settings\mark>tracert www.plus.net

Tracing route to portal.plus.net [212.159.8.137]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

1 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms . [192.168.2.1]
2 28 ms 19 ms 95 ms lo0-plusnet.ptn-ag1.plus.net [195.166.128.123]
3 355 ms 451 ms 632 ms ge0-0-0-103.ptn-gw2.plus.net [84.92.3.18]

Trace complete.

Any suggestions?

well, its all getting funny now.

I think plusnet think i'm some sort of experiment, to see how long it takes before i snap.

Thing is at 7:30 am the responses are fine and the connection feels like broadband (not trolling, just can't think how better to phrase it). This seems to consistently happen late afternoon (outside peak). I don't sit a watch my connection all day but have noticed checking mail etc before going to work is great. Check late afternoon and I start getting timeouts, not every day just too often to keep surfing fun.

coincidently - any downloads which have run fine all day drop to around 8 - 12k. I'm on premier, not a heavy downloader. Anything else I can do to try to track the problem down?

what to ping/tracert

Have you tried any BT Speed Tests? This will determine if the problem you are experiencing is caused by exchange contention or another cause.

Just done the speedtest (bit of a faf that one).
result 1809 which is consistent with the speed test from the plusnet member area.
