what is the deal with maxdsl ?

i can say i've payed much attension to whats going on with maxdsl but i've just been upgraded and am on the 3 day trial thing so i'm wondering just what the deal is.
I take it with maxdsl theres no guaranteed speed ?

currantly i'm connected at 8.1mb but am getting speeds of 1400mb down and its only 12 o'clock but earlier i had 6000.

Not sure on the noise margin either ..whats the best noise margin ?
mine is
Downstream Noise Margin = +12.9 dB
Downstream Attenuation = 15.5 dB
Upstream Noise Margin = +128.0 dB
Upstream Attenuation = 15.5 dB

so i'm wondering what speeds i'd get with that.
atm i'm getting worse speeds than i was when i was on 2mb Cry

Based on those figures, you should stay sync'ed at 8.1 Mb/s. It is worth checking the SNR margin during the day to see if it varies much. Mine starts degrading most days at... 12:00!

colour me stupid but whats SNR ?

SNR = Noise Margin

I think.

SNR is the amount the signal goes above the noise, ie the higher it is the better. Its like being in a crowd of people talking, you need to shout louder to be heard.

what is the deal with maxdsl ?

wait wait wait....

So while I'm likely to get above my current 2mb at times, I might also go LOWER than what I have at ALL times at the moment??

Hmmmm

No, don't worry... just yet Wink

If you are sync'ed at 8.1 Mb/s and a downstream noise margin of over 12 dB, then you should be getting your 6 Mb/s (or a bit more) all the time. Typically problems are:
- contention
- errors causing slow down (but unlikely at 12 dB margin)
- the actual throughput limited by PN (look here: http://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate ) until BT tell them to increase it
- something else I haven't thought of...

yep my limit is 8000
my db have dropped to 8db tho so i'm alittle worried there but it is peak time now so ...
my exchange checks out as in the green
still getting 1400 on speed test to Cry

My noise margin right now is 29, so hopefully, when I eventually get moved over, it will be fine...

what is the deal with maxdsl ?

Not quite true.

fooatari goto http://www.dslzoneuk.net/maxspeed.php and put in your line stats, I took a guess you attenuation was 40dB and it gives you speeds likely to be greater than 7Mb.

what is the deal with maxdsl ?

Line Attenuation (Down):22 (Up):7
Noise Margin (Down):29 (Up):27

Based on the values you entered, we estimate that your line can support around 7.2 - 8.0 Mbps.
