wha programs are out there to monitor my online bandwidth ?

How about BWmeter from Desksoft or DUMeter

http://www.desksoft.com/

I use both.

BWmeter also lets you log the data and for user
defined parts of teh day. Doesn't split by p2p/nttp
however.

Very similar to dumeter - but free! ("NetMeter is and will always stay freeware")

If you look over in the Ideas forum too there is a thread that has a fair bit in aswell.
Actually LINK HERE.

Im not certain why your not interested in monitoring your lan as you use a router Huh but hey.

I use the tool that in my link. That measures all traffic that passes via my router, day, nightn evening etc. It also logs the speed of traffic, the time of the traffic, and it produces a csv file for logs.

The downside is it requires the use of snmp within your router, so if your router does not have or does not support snmp, im afraid itsa a no no.

I think the point was he wants to differentiate between LAN traffic and internet traffic, however, unless your router supports it you won't be able to, except maybe with packet sniffing to test the target IP address, but again, getting programs for your computer to do that is slightly easier said than done, also if you have more than one machine it will only be logging the machine its on, not all traffic passing through the router.

The beauty of what I use is that I can give you readings from each individual item.
Internet
LAN
Access Point
Server
My PC
My Laptop

Etc etc. It runs on my server and monitors by snmp. So each device using snmp can be monitored and so each will have their own readings. The router is split into WAN and LAN so LAN traffic is kept seperate from WAN. If you purchase the pro tool it can be a little expensive I know, but there is a freebie which I have linked to. I am just not sure on how much you can do.

Is there one to monitor WAN traffic from a router that does not support smnp?

lank111,

Without capturing LAN traffic I really dont know.

I think that no matter what you use you will always find LAN traffic mixed up in it. I think it is hard to be able to establish the difference between LAN and WAN for your bog standard monitoring tool.
If you had 2 NIC's then I would think that it is possible to achieve this as you could have 1 purely for the net and the other purely for LAN and thus setting the monitoring tools to monitor the NIC using the net whilst ignoring the one for the LAN.

I know that with the use of snmp on my router it shows 2 graphs as it is both a router and a switch, thus giving me readings for the 2 seperate activities.

Perhaps someone else might know a way, but I dont think I could help out any more Sad sorry.

Regards,
