i was wondering if someone can help me

i finally got upgraded to the upto 8mb package on 27/12/06 after 8 months and then the same day i couldnt connect

this was fixed on the 31/12/06 but since then my line speed is getting slower and slower and i am now only connecting at 768 kbps

is there a initial running in period that i should be aware of as i hoped that i was finally getting somewhere and that i might finaaly have a decent connection speed but at the moment it looks like i will be back where i started on a half meg connection

Yes a running-in period of 10 days, see this link

http://portal.plus.net/support/broadband/network/upto8Mb.shtml

Also, do a BT speedtest to get a bit more information about your line.

Hi,

There's an initial training period of ten days once upgraded to Max.

Do you know what speeds you are syncing at? Have you run a BT Speedtest?

Hi

Yes i ran a speed test and it came back saying my line speed was 500 kbps

so i just wondered if anything had been reset as when i joined in april it said my line was 2meg capable but because of upgrade problems i didnt get upgraded until the 27/12/06

then it connected and sync'd at 2.2 meg then i had a problem that i couldnt connect as the line was connected at the local exchange but couldnt authenticate with the isp

this was sorted on the 31/12/06 but like i said the sync speed seems to be getting less and less so i just wondered if bt etc had re-set the connection or something

i am currently at work but if screen shots etc would help then i can do them when i get home

Just checked from here.

Sync isn't great at 768kbps, but this is subject to change. I'd try changing filters and plugging into the master socket to see if this offers any improvement.

I will change the filter when i get home and it is already plugged straight into the master socket

what else should i be looking at as im not 100% sure what all the snr margins etc mean

Basically, with the current sync speed you are getting you will not get speeds over 500kbps. I want to see if the changed filter leads to an improvement in sync speed - which should lead to an improvement in connection throughput within 3 days.

ok when i get home ill check and post the speeds i am getting and then ill change the filter and see what happens

and thanks for your help so far

Nope, apparently not.

I think we're going to have to wait until the end of the ten day period before we're able to do anything. I just wanted to rule out faulty filtering.

ok thanks for the help

i am willing to try things to rule them out

i have got screen shots of before the problems but i cant seem to get them onto a post
