so plusnet slow p2p speeds so we can get fast http speeds?

Yeah, right..maybe if i had lightning fast http speeds then i'd accept the fact I get slower p2p downloads..

But I'm on premier, and right now i'm getting totally random speeds. The +net speedtests are ranging from 660 to 1100...around 1mbit speeds on a 2mbit line...WHY?! Cry

Don't know why.
I've found that as well, the speeds are totally random.

Same here d/l speeds are up and down.

Online speed testers have always been unreliable (the PN one was unreliable before any traffic shaping was introduced - it is nothing new) as many things can affect what you get and a lot of those are local to your PC - like firewall settings / type of firewall / other apps using your connection etc etc.

See General: Speedchecker Reliability.

Thats rubbish Evil

I don't have to use a speed checker (and I don't) to see that the connection is all over the place!!!

There was nothing wrong with my speeds until YOU started messing with them.......

As usual you are just blaming the customer for your own short comings.....

perhaps if Plusnet paid for someone to set the traffic shaping up properly, instead of incorrectly applying the wrong profiles, they may alleviate these problems.

However there is about as much chance of sorting this mess out as there is of a 50 p a litre price drop on petrol / diesel.

Wait til 16th when this exciting new announcement comes out and those of you paying £21.99 get a download limit of 20gb per mth

You need to point your finger and anger elsewhere mate. I have not done anything to affect your speeds. I don't work for PlusNet as my sig clearly states.

The facts about speed testers are still true.

I do agree. Speeds/Pings/Downloads were fine until plusnet decided to mess with them. If something works, then don't try and fix it!

They'd better Eff'ing NOT! Evil p2p throttling i can deal with. but crap speeds/pings/throttling AND a cap really isnt worth £4.99 a month, let alone £21.99

Indeed - PN should set their stall out clearly - eiether:

1) They shape the traffic after a certain point and allow people to download as much as they want i.e. the more they download the more their traffic is shaped.

2) they do not apply shaping at all and impose caps.

With either of these options clear figures need to be given to customers, and clear publication of how the shaping will take place at what points during the customers usage.

The wooly status quo simply cannot continue.

Have those with speed problems attempted the BT Speedtester at peak and off-peak times?

This will quite firmly pin the blame on PN or BT.

Although, the sites you get slow speeds from may also be to blame. Can you post some example slow downloads?

I am also unhappy about the current level of service recently, I seem to be asking ingame recently if anyone else is suffering problems when the ping rockets or I start getting bursts of lag, to a resounding no from about 100 other players Euro wide.

Im not a great downloader however when I do its files that got anything from 8 to 200mb and to me it seems alot slower.

I asked for 2mb, I signed up for 2mb, I was getting 2mb and now it feels like I got downgraded to 512kb due to the throttling.

Alot of ppl have asked me here if PN is worth signing up to as the exchanges around here are only just going live, Ive told them that I couldnt recommend them atm.

I personally dont believe a damn word there telling us.

Its another simple example of victim of its own success, sell the cheapest 2mb unlimited link with a core of happy customers.
Sell lots of the 2mb links to new customers but the profit margin is very low.
Realise you need to buy more bandwidth but your margin means its cost prohibitive, so bandwidth restrict your customer base and cram them all in onto the existing available bandwidth.

Whats left, a load of unhappy customers who then proceed to make sure the whole of the UK know what PN have done.

Well actually you're talking crap, the http and ftp speeds are fine, I am a new customer and getting fine connection speeds, may gaming pings are fine. Yes things that are p2p or usenet based are slow, because of the throttling, but that is where the throttling is, not on the http and ftp transfers. Yes its really slow for "downloading" on a p2p or usenet basis, but that also has other factors to consider including the throttling, have you configured you're firewall correctly, are you forwarding the correct ports, are you getting a file with lots of leechs and not many seeds, how much upstream do you allow it, things like that, so don't just blame plusnet for everything, yes there is throttling but there are other things to consider aswell.
