slow downloads on max adsl

Hi i have been on ADSL Max for while now and mu router sync's between 6mb and 8mb depending on the time of the day.
My line is very stable and very rarely drops, but i only seem to be able to download at 2mb.
Is their any reason for this?Huh

Hi

How long is a while? more than a couple of weeks?

What speed does this page display for you? > https://portal.plus.net/my.html?action=stable_rate

Also try the new BT speed test, it shows what profile you are configured with at BT's end:-

Why are the two rates shown by the two above links different?
i.e. I have a stable rate from the first one of 5.5Mb, and an IP profile from the second one of 4.5Mb.

In theory there can be a 24hr period between BT deciding your line rate should change and the PN portal value being updated.

The portal is updated twice a day at 8AM and 8PM, which implies a 12hr delay ... I find it is usually 24hrs!

I've had a few goes at that test ( above ) but never manage to complete it as it times out.

any suggestions other than disconnect/reconnect routine until getting onto a different gateway? ( i've already done that! )

Your Stable Rate is PN's profile:-

So to summerise your details up to now are:-

Modem Sync = 6.5
BT Profile = 4.5
PN Profile = 6

Avg DL speed = 2MB

Have you performed the BT speed tests? (Post Results)

This will remove the PN network from the equation.

Try the test from the BT Master Socket AND from the Test Socket behind the faceplate of the BT socket (Post Results):-

mine looks worse.....

always sync at 8000 ( did from day one )
bt saying 4000

MSR plusnet page say 8000

my plusnet speed tests... all over the place.. lately under One meg, and my throughput from the likes of easynews.com 5.93KB/Sec !!!!!

I'm normally getting a good 3-4meg speed result during daytime from plusnet, similar from speedtest.net and a throughput on a good clean tracerote at easynews of around 200-300KB/Sec ( reget shows 650kb when downloading )

With PN stating your stable rate is 8MB then thats OK. All it means is there is nothing that PN's profile is doing to limit your rate. If PN's rate was 3MB then there would be need for concern.

All you can do at the moment is the BT speed tests (see prior post) at 3 different times of day e.g. 21:00 (Peak), 08:00 (Off peak), 14:00 (Off peak) and see what results you get (post results)

Also check your exchange status, just in case:-
