poor Speedtest Results

I have been noticing that my non-p2p downloads have been slower than usual today so, I decided to have a couple of speed tests, on the plusnet member centre, just a few moments ago. My results are between 1571 to 1630 kbps achieved speed.

Has anyone else been having speed issues like this?

those arnt bad. It could just be exchange contention.

You could alwasy try reconnecting just incase its a bad link

"computer says no"! I've tried reseting the modem and still get those speeds. I usually get 1900kbps. o well. I suppose its a peak time problem.

Speed issue? lmao.

It'll always dip a bit on Sunday afternoon, especially this time of year.Probably the busiest your local exchange gets during the week too.

Some people would kill for those speeds. Cheesy By the way, don't bother complaining until it drops below 400kbps.Honest,that's still 2 meg bb.

If we can match them to some BT Speed Tests we'll be able to offer an educated guess Smiley

But exchange contention would be the first suspect.

Wow, a real moderator? Thanks. well er...here you go.

I've got a basic, master socket - splitter 1 PC jobby going on. Had some techy mates around and they're unsure as well. BT are looking into it, but i just want to open another branch and put your minds to good use. not that the "Brie and Bacon" issue isnt... Tongue

The speed test has completed on test server speedtester1.nat.bt.com for user 01********* and you have downloaded a 1.7Mb file at a speed of
104 kilo bits per second (Kbps), your service bandwidth will have been quoted to you in kilo bits per second.
Your IP address is **.**.***.***, your browser is reported as being Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 and is running on Windows XP.
BT would regard the speed ranges shown below as normal service:
For 250kbps End Users speeds between 50 - 250kbps.
For 500kbps End Users speeds between 100 - 500kbps.
For 1000kbps End Users speeds between 200 - 1000kbps.
For 2000kbps End Users speeds between 400 - 2000kbps.
You may now disconnect from the speed test account (click 'disconnect' in your internet connection window) and if you wish to regain normal access to the internet please re-connect to your ISP using your usual username and password.
Please note that test results may vary according to varying traffic in the network. If you continue to experience slower throughput when logged in to your ISP, this may be due to a slow internet site or high traffic levels beyond the BT Wholesale Network. Please report this situation to your ISP's helpdesk.

Do you happen to know if you synch at 1MB speeds or 2MB speeds?
N/A

poor Speedtest Results

Not good.

Either something badly wrong with your local set up or more likely a BT problem and probably exchange contention.

Enter your phone number in the Exchange Checker and see if there are any reported issues. Bear in mind that BT arent the quickest at updating that info.

Just done a speedtest as I thought things were a little slow, and the result
PlusNet Speed Test

Your current speed is:

784.60kbps

on a 2mb Premier connection and my exchange is showing GREEN
It's very rare now during peaktimes to get speeds over 1500 (when I joined in July it was always around 1900) but this is very poor - PN and BT will, no doubt, blame the cold weather

Edit: 5 minutes later

847.9 kbps YOU
920 kbps ADSL 1000
1840 kbps ADSL 2000

I've done plenty of exchange checker and the results have always been good, which is a shame as i couldn't blame BT there...

Its been exactly the same since i started which is suspicious, no increase in speed, nor real decrease, apart from those two days....4.5?!?! that was funny.

Anyway BT are investigating, hopefully they'll find something useful.

Definatly a BT problem since the Bt speed checker shows the same results. Seeing as its completely independant of plusnet.

Keep pressin heat down on BT or it'll never get done Wink
