I have done speed tests on my line and although the one supplied on this website does not work (comes up with a new window with 'conducting speed test' in bold and that is all I get)I tried another that was mentioned on the boards and got 1500kbps, however it takes minutes literally for websites to load, just going from one page to another link can take 5mins easily. I am on Option 2.

What could be the cause of this? I never had a problem with my previous setup.

This is virtually impossible to use as it takes so long.

Hi there,

Are you talking about the BT Speedtest? It is notoriously slow and may often not complete for some people (myself included).

Hi,

I am talking about the speed test supplied on this site, from the connection settings 'bandwidth speed test.

Although my main issue is the fact that it takes an age to load pages on the internet

Thanks. What sort of results do you get from http://www.mybroadbandspeed.co.uk ?

Does that page also take ages to load?

this page still took a while to load although at least this one did load.

results were:
download speed 1713kbps
upload speed 39kbps

Your upload speed is terrible.
What are your up and down synch speeds and noise margin

Certainly I would agree that the slow upload speed is the likely cause. Do you know if you have anything uploading that could be using the bandwidth? Worth running a full virus and spyware scan just to be on the safe side.

how do I find out what the up and down synch speeds and noise margin are?

are there any internet virus and spyware scans that are worth running?

I did have Mcafee but it has expired (came free with the computer)

have a look here and see if your router/modem is listed http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.htm
EDIT - if you read this page it should give a few ideas.

Note - I would not use Lavasoft Adaware as it has too many false positives - try Superantispyware instead

What are your up and down synch speeds and noise margin

Downstream:
Bitrate - 2592
Attenuation - 57dB
SNRM - 9.1dB
tx pwr - 17.4dBm

RCO:90% (2880kbps)

Upstream:
Bitrate - 448
Attenuation - 31dB
SNRM - 19dB
tx pwr - 11.8dBm

RCO:46% (978kbps)

There is nothing that I am aware of that is uploading that could be taking up the bandwidth but am not certain?

With those stats your IP rate will be 2000kbps to your downstream speed at 1713kbps is not too far down but your upstream speed should be about 300 - 350 kbps.
Two possibilities - something is messing up the speedtest - so please try this one http://www.speedtest.bbmax.co.uk/
The other is that something is taking your bandwidth. I don't think you said which modem or router you are using - that may be useful as it may give the upstream usage.
One more thing which firewall are you using as many of them include network monitors.
Finally you haven't got any P2P software installed have you

Just done a check of the raw usage date for the yesterday and Sunday on your account and there's no disproportionate usage showing for the uploads, looks about right for the downloaded amount.

I'd say the best thing to do is depending on the result of the other speed test is to raise it as a fault and note that it's a slow upload fault and we can run some remote testing and try and find out what's wrong.

i don't believe that I have any p2p software installed.

I have a fairly new laptop with vista loaded and have not added much else.

how do I raise this as a fault?

Unless someone has a better idea this might be a good place to start http://faults.plus.net/applications.php?Module=Faults
