outlook express problem

Hi,every time i open outlook express i get the error box opening up below saying theres an error occured.When i look at the error,it always says that my hotmail a/c has failed to check for new messages,even though just a few seconds ago i recieved a message in my hotmail inbox.Can anyone help with this please.I am running xp pro with service pack 2 installed,by hp not myself.

i'm guessing you're getting something like
 Protocol: HTTPMail

Port: 0
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 80004005


I think this is a hotmail/microsoft server fault.
I have been getting a problem for a couple of weeks now, and another plusnet user has also posted on it recently -- see this thread

hmmmm ... it has occurred to me to wonder if this has something to do with either port blocking across the PN network, or even recent changes to the PN traffic management platform, but I don't know enough about OE, httpmail, ports or the PN network to know ...
any clever bod (that nice mr. tomlinson for instance) care to comment ?
