network problems? / questions

Hi

A couple of questionns for the comms team...

1). I just read that there have been a network problem today, I was wondering is that why I am getting slow downloads / surfing today? I know my exchange is red but the slow downloads / surfing only happened today and my exchange has been red for 2 or so months..

2). I've been sitting patiently my connection to be upgraded to 8mb, I was wondering, how long do I have to sit patiently for my connection to be upgraded. I know my exchange has been upgraded a long time ago

thanks

Having selected the "Upgrade now to 'Up to 8Mb' " button in Help & Support over a fortnight ago I asked the same question as you in a ticket ..... apparently it takes between 4 and 6 weeks to complete due to current demand :?

Thanks to James for sorting the problem Cheesy

I have not requested to be upgraded yet on the presumption that free upgrades will happen automatically. I am interested when this auto upgrade will happen without me having to request an upgrade.

Hi,

A couple of months back the regrades were changed to opt-in only because of the number of problems customers were seeing when upgrading and because some customers were being upgraded without knowing anything about it.

If you've not placed a opt-in request, then if you want to upgrade to Max you can do so via http://max.plus.net

The regrade process should now take around 2 weeks, at the end of every week we place a bulk order with BT of all the customers that have opted in during that week. It then takes around 5 working days for BT to place all of the orders.

When you raise a ticket you'll receive an automated reply acknowledging the upgrade request (a script processes all the tickets rather than CSC) and then an email when we place the order.

If you you haven't had an email and your sync speed hasn't changed after 3 weeks I'd say to query it with the support team (don't use the opt-in option in the wizard because it won't get read as above).

Regarding the speeds, difficult to say, it could be related to this post:

http://users.plus.net/status/archive/1163709255.htm

if it's FTP, Usenet or P2P or other traffic that ranks in the silver queue. It could be the exchange even though it's been red for a while, simple reason is that most exchanges have more than one VP (the backhaul links from the exchange back to BT PoPs) and the red could have been flagged for one of them, but you're on another that's now seeing problems. Or it could easily be something else. Worth checking for any MSOs at:

Thanks for the replay Dave.

Is the opt-in upgrade free or is this the £5.00 fee I seen mentioned a ago weeks back?

I have accepted that p2p/ftp and newsgroups are does not really work during peak time, but I am downloading via the web (http) and I have tested my downloads by downloading the mysql server and its ranges from 10 KB/s - 50 KB/s during peak and off peak (trying to download now) and its STILL poor speeds compared to 2 days ago when I was getting 180KB/s plus on and off peak.

This is strange, I can max my connection if I download from sites inside the uk but if I download from outside of the uk, the speeds are terrible.

thanks you
