+nets new name

Plusnet needs to be renamed Minusnet in view on the now ever decreasing bandwidth we seem to be getting . I am still convinced my connection is being throttled somewhat compared to just a few weeks ago, used to get around 960 with my 1 meg but now its 920 if I'm lucky

Those are my results for my 2meg line for the last month - not too bad so don't think it is a PN wide issue more likely to be line or exchange related.

920 is perfectly acceptable for 1Mb.

Have you checked your exchange VP status? Could be exchange contention slowing it slightly.

I'm thinking here that BT have shot themselves in the foot with the bulk regrades with a number of exchanges groaning at the seams with additional demands on them for bandwidht...

Recent speeds since the bulk upgrade (LWACT) hopefully to be sorted by the 6th. Sept. according to BT (take with a pinch of salt). No problems at all on 1Mb before my upgrade two weeks back.

Its not acceptable when I used to get 960, & getting 920 is on a good day sometimes its 850 or so
920 is the minimum on +nets checker, i.e the minimum they consider is normal for 1meg
I recently discovered my premier account showed up as homesurf in Winmtr & altho +net eventually sorted it out it seems no different

Definately sounds like exchange contention to me.

I've been with +net for a few weeks now, and the speeds are definitely changing:

09-08-2005 10:47:12 1840.8
23-08-2005 23:12:17 1845.2

I seem to be going faster Smiley

Joking aside, don't forget the ratios - 50:1 at BT's end and 30:1 at +net's end. These can influence the speed in a big way, specially if your exchange is congested (and in that case, there's nothing +net can do about it, as even 50kbits/sec is well within BT's advertsed minimum required speeds for residential lines).
