need file permission changes??

I am working on moving my website (currently at http://www.siegewars.net) to my new plus net space (whopping 250mb one whoohoo).

anyway i have a problem. im busy converting my access db pages to mysql ones and i have 2 questions :

1. The site consists of many textfiles, i have made a directory called data\textfiles and put them in there. does this directory need file permission changes as i need read and write ability to them?
if so does a plus tech do this or me?

2. Even thou im converting my pages to mysql which is easy enough, can i use my access dbases in the meantime? (its no problem if the answers NO)?

thanks

Hi there,

You should be able to set the directory permissions yourself via your FTP client.

Could you clarify your second question? You would not be able to integrate an access database into your webspace 'as is' if this is what you are asking?

RE: need file permission changes??

2nd question : you answered it Tongue

ill try to set the read/write permissions myself (but ive tried doing that with other web hosts and it doesnt work.......ill try)

thanks

btw it appears posting a problem in the forum is way quicker than mail direct to tech support.

RE: need file permission changes??

seems that way.

ive raised this problem as a ticket twice now and the only reply i got was putting it in this forum.

does that mean some tickets go straight into the bin?

RE: need file permission changes??

Hi Amanda,

If you are uploading the text files to ftp.plus.net then you should be able to set the permissions with your ftp client.

The client that I personally use, leech ftp, has a "set attributes" function - although most ftp cliets will be able to do this.

The other option, if you are having problems with this, is to put the text files in question onto the cgi server. This comes with a 50Mb limit so whether or not you can do this will depend on how many text files and how big they are. If you can do it this way you can telnet onto the cgi server and use the chmod command to change the permissions.

Hope this helps

Regards

Josh
