Seems to be the norm at peak times now. Plusnet's lack of capacity.

I raised a ticket on another day asking if it was exchange contention or were particular pipes busy. No-one hazarded a guess Sad. They wanted plenty of traceroutes etc. I would have thought they needed other user's traceroutes not mine to look for contention.

Those pings are crippling for gamers. No good at all sometime I've had 200ms first hop.

I don't think it's the exchanges as you can normally improve things by reconnecting to another pipe.

I want to know if this can be improved by PN buying more pipes. If so, when and if? Was it such a surprise when MaxDSL arrived? What's the news at other ISPs?

Hi,

We believe the problem is being caused by an issue on the ERX's, we've scheduled some maintenance work for Thursday morning which we think should fix this. It shoudln't make any difference with gaming because the ping time is only how long the ERX's take to respond rather than the traffic that goes through them (priority will always go to passing traffic through the routers than replying to pings).
