Hi all,

Hope someone can shed some light on the different speed results I'm getting:

Did the BT speed test and got these results
Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test: -provides background information.
IP profile for your line is - 7150 kbps
DSL connection rate: 448 kbps(UP-STREAM) 8128 kbps(DOWN-STREAM)
Actual IP throughput achieved during the test was - 3001 kbps

and here are the results from PN speed test

02-01-2007 23:01:56 801
02-01-2007 23:01:18 748
02-01-2007 23:00:59 1055
02-01-2007 22:56:14 950.4
02-01-2007 22:40:43 812
02-01-2007 22:40:11 991.7
02-01-2007 22:39:30 821.7
02-01-2007 22:38:45 742.1

Looking at the BT results my connection 8meg is rated at 7150kbps but on the PN test I only average 850 ish. whats going on , is my connection rubbish or what  something is not right speeds are poor at times but not this bad surely what is the point of having a fast connection(if only). its like driving a V8 but only 1 cylinder is firing and thats no joke.

Forget the PN speed tester, it is broken and has been for some time and is planned to be re-written sometime in the future. I suggest you use alternate speed testers like the one thinkbroadband (adslguide).

I tried the adsl guide tester and it gave similar results

Have you exceed your usage allowance?

Have you rebooted your connection and gained similar results?

If you have a look at the service status pages you will see that we currently have an issue with load balancing.

I've reflashed my router with the latest version of its firmware and reset it to factory defaults, did that as part of an upgrade I was doing anyway, once I'd setup the router again and went online noticd there was a lag bringing up web pages, did a speed test at this point and noticed results were below par, if the speed checker is not working correctly then fair enough not much I can do but the one on adsl guide had similar results so thought I'd bring it up here to see if anyone else had issues, if it was a load balancing issue that should get resolved and settle down again, I'll do another check later.
I've not gone over any limits so my connection should not be resrticted and during the course of the router reflash and setup it was rebooted several times.
thanks all Cheesy
