can't get to secure websites

Since moving to plus net I've been unable to access certain https sites - namely barclays and natwest online banking.

So far I've uninstalled my firewall (zonealarm), allowed port 443 on the router (a BT voyager 240 supplied by plusnet), changed the MTU setting to a lower figure (1492) but still it won't let me access these sites.

PLEASE!!! anyone who has nay suggestions, I'm getting desperate - I have a 56k modem here that may be installed just so I can access my accounts online!!

Have you tried a different browser? If not please try Firefox or Opera.

Also, please post the addresses of the sites here so I can test them from here.

To try and be helpful....

Natwest https://www.nwolb.com

Barclays https://ibank.barclays.co.uk

For info I can access them both here on my Plus Net connection, behind a Belkin router.

Cheers

I use Firefox and I accessed both sites okay -- but then, I have my own list of websites that simply won't load -- always a Time Out error... the only theory I can think of right now is that these sites take slightly longer to Ping back or something, and that I'm timing out too early...

I found a very good website on this:

http://www.duxcw.com/faq/win/xp/secure.htm

Unfortunatly even after trying all the suggestions on there I still can't get access to these 2 secure sites.

can't get to secure websites

I regularly use NatWest Online Banking without issue, and just managed to get to Barlcays iBank without issue.

I never had a problem before when I was on dial-up with tiscali - it's only since I've got ADSL with plus net I've been unable to reach them.

Can you get to this link?
This is a tester which will attempt to check whether your machine is capable of accessing the secure site. (The Natwest site)
Now mine does, so I can't give any clue as to whether it will tell you what the problem is, or whether it'll just say 'no you can't do it' (which you already found outSmiley)

can't get to secure websites

I use the barclays ibank site every day not ever had any issues using firefox or IE

just got to the natwest without problem too

Are your browser security settings too high as this may cause you to have some problems not so much with firefox but ive seen it so many times with IE

worth checking and setting them to default also if you have set up for custom cookies can deny you access to these sites so set them to default also and then see if you can get to them

Have you tried with firefox ?

strange - I can get to the Natwest tester site, but not the online banking section. I ntoice the tester site isn't a https:// site though, and the online banking section is a different URL

My mate had a problem link this. But he is on AOL using a netgear router or some sort. For him this page here helped, http://support.metronet.co.uk/adsl/trouble-mtu.xhtml1

I was reading that your MTU settings can effect the SSL connections.

I hope this helps. Cheesy

But does the tester site tell you that your machine should be able to access the site?
I know that the tester site is not a secure site, but it should check your settings to see if you will be able to access the site.
