Can someone look into why I can't access the national-lottery website?

Been like this for 3 days, I am able to access the website with other ISPs and through a proxy server but not using my own connection.

Could it possibly be your own Virus/Firewall blocking the connection?

As you say, the Lottery site is working.

Have you checked of you can resolve the address? You should get:

C:\>nslookup www.national-lottery.co.uk

Server: ptn-cdns02.plus.net
Address: 212.159.6.10

Non-authoritative answer:
Name: www.lb.national-lottery.co.uk
Address: 208.49.174.70
Aliases: www.national-lottery.co.uk

Have you tried ping or tracert? Can you reach the site that way?

And have you tried without your AV running or your software firewall disabled (for a short time) or even rebooting your router and PC? All of those can cause problems accessing websites.

I have tried all the above before posting here! Gave it 3 days thinking it was server issues but then tried a proxy server and the website worked, so am thinking theres something wrong with my connection?...

I just tried pinging it and it is unreachable after the fifth hop.

It does however load up in Firefox no problem.

Have you tried clearing your cache?

Other than that,I'd suggest "contact us" in the portal if you have the patience of a saint.

I tried everything I can think of Smiley

So it seems that its only me that can not access the lottery website Sad

I don't think I can do much else, hopefully it will rectify itself SOON ...

can't access website

I was unable to access the site www.lush.co.uk until I replaced my router. Manufacturer and computer shop had no idea why it would fail on this particular site, but both agreed that I was due a replacement.

If you are using a router, try another one, or use an old BT Voyager modem to see if you can access the site.

Wasnt working for me either just then, now it seems to be working. Maybe its just a glitch with a certain PN gateway and the website?

Sometimes a refresh is necessary, or closing the browser and reopening it.

I avoid ie at all costs - a truly dreadful browser - stick with firefox and opera.

It usually means the configuration of autodetecting settings and all that causes the problem.

Play around with them and see. I am amazed a router caused the problem with lush - that has to be a load of rubbish. I suspect that site on the firewall of that router or its ip range or something was the problem there. Understanding routers and firewall issues, together with DNS and DHCP will help you. Not as compex as you may think!

Plus.net is usually down when they have a global problem - as much as they annoy me, I will give them that!

McGod - a bit strong with your reply! A bit arrogant too to assume that you know what has been tried and that you have a solution.

The router was confirmed to be the cause both by the manufacturer and the technical guys at the retailer. I too have tested it and replaced it with different routers which have not had the problem. Firewalls have been disbaled to ensure they were not the cause, DNS and MTU have been changed and none of these made any difference.

I agree that it was a bizarre fault, but it happened so it is worthwhile checking all possible causes - sometimes you too will be amazed!

Hmm to be honest I have to fall back and eat humble pie. I also have a dodgy router which no longer works. Usually a firmware application gone wrong is the cause. Shall we setup up a dodgy router topic? Or shall we just agree that I was wrong and you were right? Yeh sounds a plan!
