asking for a re-train

Hi,

Everytime you sync up with the exchange the equipment will recalcuate the sync speed, although this will be determined using the target SNR value that has been previously determined.

Do you have the line stats for the line?

How did james end up posting stats for ilegal89?

If James had the figures to hand would Dave not have them also?

James is one of the special people with a woosh fob so can run a woosh test on the line to get the stats.

The key part is

Downstream xDSL Link Info
Loop Loss 59 dB
Margin 12 dB

The 59dB is very high which indicates a pretty long line. It's just within the limits for a fixed rate 1Mbps service (under 60dB).

The margin of 12dB is pretty decent, by default BT aim for an SNR of 6dB, but if the line is unstable, which can easily happen on a long line, the SNR figure will be increased by the kit at the exchange.

As such the line can probably support 2Mbps, maybe 2.5Mbps but the chances are that it would be pretty unstable.

asking for a re-train

ye, i posted something last week
ill sum it up:

i had 600-900kb line varied alot between this
i used test socket, got 1,3mb ( now 1.6)

my line attenuation went from 40-60
and SNR was around 18 - now 12-14 ish

:S im jsut wondering why there was a huge jump from 40 to 60

The change in line attenuation will have not been as a result of the upgrade. The line attenuation will be related to the cable quality.

The noise margin will be related to the upgrade - BT will squeeze it down as much as possible whilst attempting to maintain stability in order to increase your sync speed.

I don't like the fluctuating attenuation figures that you're reporting.

i dont get how a 20db+ can be added just because i took off the ring wire o.O

p.s. i have an electric garage reletively close, but i get no change, when it open closes, i cant think of anything else that could of caused this.

however my neighbours 2mg upgrade coinsides with the 40 +(20db) line attenuation

this is all so very confusing ;p

>>James is one of the special people with a woosh fob

lol. that just made up for the afternoon of constant disconnections i've had. at least there's comedy to be found in them there plusnet hills...

and a bit more OT, i was syncing at either 4 or 2 mbps a few months ago (seem to change daily), then the modem broke and had problems syncing for a few days (well... maybe a litlle more. actually, ermm... "it has been identified that your line has reconnected 4192 times over a 24 hours period". *blush* i like to think that's a record or something good anyways...).

anyway, basically after that got another message through saying "BT will be pro-activly applying a capped profile to your line ...blahblah... BT will be monitoring your line for any changes. Where possible, the profile will be removed." and since then it's never synced at more than 2 mbps. not sure if it's related or not, but any idea if it'll ever magically get a little faster someday? maybe someone could try some of that woosh fob stuff on it? Wink
