Yet Another Speed Question...

I'm not happy with the speeds I've been getting for some weeks. I'm on "up to 2 Meg", but can only get about 1 Meg because of distance from the exchange (Wrexham North).

The +Net speed tests used to regularly come in at around 960 - 980 kbps. Since about May/June, though, I seldom get over 950 kbps, and quite often get a lot less than that.

e.g., this afternoon. I did a +Net speed test:

626 kbps.

I went straight over to adslguide's tester:

923 kbps.

I came straight back to +Net's:

869 kbps

I retested once more:

888 kbps.

During the period of the last few months, I've used two different modems (a Dynamode A360 and, now, a SpeedTouch 330 bought because I thought the Dynamode was on the way out), but speed tests of between 550 kbps and 900 kbps are very much the norm now.

This is...disappointing.

Any suggestions?

TIA

Yet Another Speed Question...

ahh, also

find your master socket, the main socket

it should have like a bottom half, which you can remove

take off the face plate, plug your modem into the test socket

if speeds increase, then your extension wiring is screwed up.

also people on adslguide.org suggest removing the ring wire (orange) you can find guides on google. by removing the orange wires, it increased my speed.

I might get back to you about that - it's too late in the day for me to go finnicking around in there right now.

Yet Another Speed Question...

Probably not relevant, but I'm on Wrexham North too and my speeds are terrible at the moment. I'm regularly getting less than 250kbps despite being on up to 8 meg with a router synching at approx 3000. I've has speeds of up to 2 meg in the past and haven't changed anything so I'm fairly dischuffed.

PN have asked me to perform the usual 3 BT speedtests (obviously the last three I did don't count...) and I can't even get onto the Speedtest site as they appear to have changed the login process and it tells me that my user details don't match my phone number.
