It takes 3 to 4 days of this before BT and PN systems notice your line has improved from whatever problem caused it to go below 500kb/s. Sad Been playing with phone wiring/extensions?

Looks like this updated back to 2Mb this morning. You should just need to reboot your modem/router to see this come back.

I rebooted my router and ran the test again...

Still not ideal. So if my router is showing 1056, i can still only download at 500 kbps?

Yep, in order for BT to set an IP profile of 1000kbps your line line needs to sync at 1152kbps or higher (for at least 3-5 days). At 1056kbps it will get a 500kbps IP profile.

See this page for details:

I'd suggest checking all of your wiring and filters, this is a good place to start:

http://usertools.plus.net/tutorials/id/13

any incorrect wiring and filters could easily cause this.

If it doesn't help can you post your line stats? This page shows how to get them on most routers/modems:

Thanks for the reply.

I cant see how, in my case, wiring could be a problem, i have the microfilter plugged straight into the master test socket, with nothing else plugged in, Sky are not too happy about this and keep sending me letters saying they are going to disconnect me (multiroom), but if i leave it in, i have no internet connection, think i will have to call an engineer out.

Also the router i am using is a Belkin FSD7632-4 and as per this page..

http://www.kitz.co.uk/tute/belkin_commands.htm

None of the commands work, when i put

http://192.168.2.1/ADSL_status_main.stm

in the address bar, after logging in, all i get is
Quote
Can't open file ADSL_status_main.stm

Could this be a router problem? it is only a couple months old.

Looks like a problem with the filter Cheesy

If you continue to sync with the exchange at the faster rate for 3 days then the IP profile will be increased accordingly - as will your throughput speeds.
