Where +Net goes, Zen joins the merry band

Looks like Zen are adding download limits to their products also, only
8 Mb products so far but ....

Maybe +Net aren't as bad as we think, hold on it's going to be a bumpy ride !!

All hell has broke loose at ADSL Guide e.g.

It was only a matter of time with the way BT charge ISP's.

A 20GB hard cap for £25 a month, 50GB for £35. Didn't see if VAT is extra.

And they say that
the 50GB monthly usage allowance with Zen 8000 Pro is more than enough even for very heavy Internet users. Only users who continually saturate their connections with peer to peer file sharing downloads are likely to use more than this allowance.

I know the mods don't usually like stuff about other ISPs on Community Support, but if anything is likely to support the Pn community, then this is it.

Thats why I posted it. Perhaps it will settle the debate about the grass is
always greener elsewhere, as it is clearly not.

Maybe it will Help +Net roll out their limits etc and we can see where
we stand ?

A completely saturated uncontended 8Mbit ADSL line can shift about 2500GB/month. 50GB is about 1/50th of that, or 50:1 contended. Not very generous of them after all.

You only have to look at this - http://usergroup.plus.net/report_pncapacity.php and in particular the calculator at the bottom to understand why this is affecting every single IPStream ISP.

There will be no such thing as unlimited broadband anymore.

Whilst capping and whatnot may be needed, I can see people (in the UK at least) will start to download & use the internet less, afraid of what limit will be reached & when.

It may, though, have the positive effect of reducing the number of MMORGS that are written...

From 1st March it wont be available for new sign ups on Zen. Only those existing customers will benefit from so called unlimited accounts for whatever time is left to them.

Am i right in thinking that Zen dont do traffic shaping.

So this is not "Where +Net goes, Zen joins the merry band"

Zen are nothing like Plusnet and Plusnet nothing like Zen.

Yip. That would be a fairly accurate statement.

Plus Net do not do hard caps. Zen do.

With Plus net, if you exceed the SUP your connection slows but is useable, with Zen it stops or you pay more for each gb of data you need.

Yes Zen are nothing like Plus Net. Cheesy
